How to fix GPS problems

GPS is the core mechanic for most MooveTeam events. When it doesn’t work well, challenges don’t activate and the organizer can’t see where you are. Here’s how to fix it.

  1. Open your phone’s Settings
  2. Go to Location (or Privacy > Location Services on iOS)
  3. Find MooveXR (or MooveGoXR) in the app list
  4. Set location access to “Always” or “While using the app”

If the permission is set to “Never” or “Ask next time,” the app can’t use GPS at all.

  • Go outside. GPS works best with a clear view of the sky. Indoors, under bridges, or between tall buildings, the signal is weak.
  • Wait a moment. GPS needs 10-30 seconds to get a good fix, especially when you first open the app.
  • Keep the app in the foreground. Some phones reduce GPS accuracy for background apps to save battery.
  • Enable Wi-Fi. Even if you’re not connected to a network, having Wi-Fi enabled helps your phone triangulate position using nearby access points.
  • Restart the app. Close and reopen it if the position seems completely wrong or frozen.

If you’re standing right on top of a challenge marker and nothing happens:

  • Check the activation method. It might be a QR challenge (look for a printed code), a manual-activation challenge (check the Challenges tab), or it might require an activation code.
  • Check segment restrictions. The challenge might belong to a segment you’re not currently in.
  • Ask the organizer to enable map-tap activation. There’s a checkbox in MooveTeam CMS (“Allow players to click over map icons”) that lets you tap markers directly. This is the fastest workaround for GPS problems.

GPS doesn’t work reliably indoors. If your event is inside a building, the organizer should have configured alternative activation methods:

  • QR codes placed at each challenge location
  • Bluetooth beacons (iBeacons) for proximity detection
  • Manual activation from the challenge list

If none of these are available and GPS isn’t working, contact the event staff.
