Your first event

This is the full story of what happens when you participate in a MooveTeam event for the first time.

Your organizer tells you which app to download:

Before the event, make sure your phone has enough battery, storage (~200 MB), and that GPS and camera permissions are enabled. See How to prepare your device.

The organizer gives you a locator code — a short alphanumeric code that identifies your team. You can enter it in three ways:

  1. Type it on the login screen
  2. Scan a QR code that contains the code
  3. Tap a deep link (MooveGoXR) sent by the organizer

The server verifies your code, assigns you to a team, and loads the event details.

If the code doesn’t work, check How to join an event for common errors and fixes.

You land on the Event Ready screen. It shows the event name, a description, and a Play button.

If the event hasn’t started yet, the Play button is disabled. You’ll see a waiting message. The organizer starts the event from MooveTeam CMS — once they do, your screen updates automatically.

When you tap Play, the app downloads a ZIP file with everything it needs: challenge content, images, audio, AR targets, and map data. This usually takes a few seconds on a good connection.

If the download is interrupted, reopen the app and it will resume where it left off.

The map is your main screen for the rest of the event. You’ll see:

  • Challenge markers — numbered pins showing where challenges are located
  • Your position — a blue dot that tracks your GPS location
  • Navigation bar — tabs at the bottom for Map, Challenges, Ranking, Chat (MooveXR), and Gadgets (MooveXR)

Walk toward a marker to activate its challenge. The activation radius is usually 20 meters, but some events use larger or smaller zones.

See Map & Navigation for details on marker colors, segments, and navigation.

When you get close enough to a marker, the challenge activates. Here’s what happens:

  1. Briefing — A screen with instructions, images, or video explaining what you need to do
  2. Gameplay — The challenge itself: answer a question, take a photo, solve a puzzle, play a mini-game
  3. Result — You see whether you were right or wrong, and how many points you earned
  4. Back to map — You return to the map to find the next challenge

Some challenges are scored automatically (quizzes, puzzles, mini-games). Others — like photos and open-text answers — are sent to staff for manual scoring. You won’t see those points immediately.

A timer may be counting down. When 20% of your time remains, you’ll see a red warning.

See How to complete a challenge and the Challenge types index for details on each type.

Open the Ranking tab to see where your team stands. Teams are listed by score, highest first.

Scores update in real time for auto-scored challenges. For staff-scored challenges, there’s a delay until the staff member reviews your submission.

If the organizer has configured alliances, a second tab shows alliance-level scores.

See Ranking for more on how scoring works.

If you’re playing with MooveXR, you have two extra tools:

  • Gadgets — Power-ups you earn by completing challenges or walking. Send them to rival teams to disrupt their screens (bombs, screen blocks, screen flips). See Gadgets.
  • Chat — Send messages to your teammates or alliance members. See Chat.

The organizer stops the event from MooveTeam CMS. When this happens:

  • All active challenges close
  • The ranking freezes
  • You see a final summary of your results

In MooveGoXR, you get a dedicated Event Results screen showing your team’s final position, score, and completed challenges.
