The challenge lifecycle

Every challenge in a MooveTeam event follows the same lifecycle. This flow walks through each stage.

A challenge must be activated before you can play it. There are several activation methods — the organizer chooses which one to use for each challenge:

MethodWhat you do
GPS proximityWalk close to the marker (usually within 20 meters). It activates automatically
QR codeFind the printed QR code at the location and scan it with the app
Activation codeEnter a code provided by staff or posted at the venue
iBeaconWalk near a Bluetooth beacon. It activates automatically
Map tapTap the marker directly on the map (only if enabled by organizer)
Welcome challengeActivates automatically when the event starts — no movement needed

The app may check additional conditions:

  • Segment restrictions — The challenge might belong to a segment you’re not currently in
  • Required objects — Some challenges require you to have collected specific items first. If you’re missing one, the app tells you what you need
  • Route order — If the event uses strict routes, you must complete challenges in sequence

If activation fails, the app shows a message explaining why.

Once activated, you see the briefing screen. This is the organizer’s instructions for the challenge: what to do, where to look, what to answer.

The briefing can include:

  • Text (sometimes quite long — read it carefully)
  • Images
  • Video
  • Audio

Tap the Start button when you’ve read the briefing and are ready to play.

The challenge type determines what you do. Here’s a quick summary:

Most challenges have a countdown timer. When 20% of your time remains, the timer turns red as a warning.

If time runs out:

  • For auto-scored challenges, the app submits whatever you had (or marks it as timed out)
  • For photo/video challenges, your submission is sent as-is
  • For mini-games, you get whatever score you reached before time expired

After the challenge ends, you see a result screen:

  • Auto-scored challenges (quizzes, puzzles, mini-games): You see immediately whether you were right or wrong, and how many points you earned.
  • Staff-scored challenges (photos, open-text answers): You see a confirmation that your submission was sent. Points appear later, once a staff member reviews it.

The app may also show:

  • A custom success/failure message set by the organizer
  • Your updated position in the ranking

You return to the map. Several things may happen behind the scenes:
